Covid-19 comparisons for Central and South America

If things were to collapse in the near future, some people
will likely choose to migrate south.  It occurred to me
that those headed south would like to have information
that would help them to decide on their destination, as
well as what to watch out for in passing thru other places
en route to their destination.

The following table is a snapshot of 1 day near the
beginning of each month since November 1, 2020, for
each location.  The "Cases" row is the total cases since
Covid-19 first occurred in that location.  The "change"
rows are the changes since the previous day, or the previous
time when they submitted a report.  Many locations skip
reporting on weekends or holidays.  Some locations report
erratically.  There is a + or - before the "change" value
because some locations have decided to report a "correction"
that reduces previous reports.

The sources for the data in the tables below change each
day, so if I didn't write down the data, the previous days'
data would be lost.

These tables contain the raw data.  It is up to you to
interpret the data so that it is meaningful to you.  The
tables are useful in noting trends.  Pay particular attention
to the "change" rows, as comparing these will help you to
determine if infections and/or deaths are increasing.  You may
note that there was a significant increase in infections in
August, 2021, when the more infectious Delta version of Covid
began to spread.  Since the Delta version has been shown to
have a lower death rate, a significant increase in Deaths may be
due to increased infections of the other, more deadly versions.

NOTE:  Since this report was written, the death rate for the
Delta version has increased significantly.

The data in the table below come from this website:

The Countries are ordered best (lowest Covid) to worst
(highest Covid).  For the most part, cases have risen faster
lately for all countries, while deaths have risen for just
some of them.

Note:  It is not clear to me whether or not the Nicaragua
data is believable.  Nicaragua reports their statistics
only once a week on Tuesdays.  I sometimes wondered
if they were reporting only for their capital city rather
than for the entire country.

Comparing to the U.S.

The numbers for Central America will make better sense
to you if you are also shown the numbers for some of the
U.S. states for comparison.  I've selected some of the
better and some of the worst U.S. states below.  Florida
could not be included in this table because it has stopped
its daily reporting of new infections and deaths.  You
may notice a surge in December and January after people
in some states chose to do away with Social Distancing
and wearing Masks during the previous month's holiday.
There is a larger surge in August when the Delta version
became wide spread.  Keep in mind that these numbers
were recorded near the beginning of the specified month.

Covid-19 Data for South America

I didn't start collecting Covid-19 infection data for
South America until the end of July, 2021, so all I can
show you is about a week's worth of data which can
imply short term trends.

For South America, keep in mind that some of these
countries have a small population and several don't
have the top rated medical and testing facilities as
are found in other parts of the world.  Indeed, some of
their remote villages may not get tested for Covid at all
and these may contribute to their lower infection numbers.
